DISH DRYING MAT & POTHOLDERS

Can you believe this is crocheted? If you are looking for a handmade housewarming gift or something for your own home then you are in the right place! Crochet this dish drying mat for your kitchen with matching potholders.

I love how simple but pretty this dish drying mat ended up looking. It was just a bonus that it matches my kitchen appliances. This mat looks so nice to just keep this mat on my counter at all times.

There is something very nostalgic about handmade potholders so I just had to include a matching potholder pattern to complete the set.

One thing that I really love about this pattern is once you get the first couple of rows set up then the rest is just a repeat! It is a lengthy project to finish, so I turned on my favorite show while completing this project. The small stiches make this project look complicated when it really isn’t. Once you get the thermal stitch down, it’s a piece of cake from there.

With this pattern I also included a bonus matching potholders pattern. I loved how this worked up and I thought it would be fun to have a matching potholder set to go along with the dish drying mat.

This dish drying mat had already been through the wash over twenty times before I took these photos. I was surprised and so pleased to see how it has kept up with so many washing and drying cycles. I still use this mat and still wash it and it still looks like I made it yesterday!

This pattern can also be altered to make a smaller or larger dish drying mat. The finished dimensions of my dish drying mat turned out to be 15 inches lengthwise and 13 inches for the width. But the great thing about this project is you can easily increase the amount of starting stitches and/or increase the lengths of some of the rows.

For this project I used Lion Brand 24/7 cotton yarn. This yarn comes in a variety of vibrant colors if black and white isn’t your thing. I made a set using the colors sky and white and another set using black and white. It was so fun to go through all the different color options that this yarn has. I love this yarn because it is a little softer than regular cotton yarn and the stitch definition comes through so well on any project I’ve used with this yarn.

If you need help getting started or want to refresh your memory with the thermal stitch, watch or read the tutorial for the thermal stitch here. There are more tutorials located in the blog “Stitches” category.
